Tips For Creating An Engaging Post On LinkedIn
When I announced the launch of my newsletter three days ago, it was overwhelming to see the amount of reception it got and to crown it all, we have over 24k subscribers (a big thank you for subscribing).
A few days ago, one of my connections contacted me and asked "Dami, how come you have so many engagements on your posts? Do you have a group you are in or what's the secret?"
While this might sound funny, I actually don't belong to any group or an engagement pod group. All my engagements are organic and they all come from one major thing- highly engaging content.
Content is king as we know and people only respond to things they find relatable, interesting, engaging, informative, educative or entertaining. This means if you can write things your audience can relate to, they are most likely to respond.
In this newsletter, I'd share some tips that can make your content 10x better than usual and if you'd like to hear how I broke each of the points down with examples, be sure to listen to my latest podcast episode. You can listen to it here to gain more insights and perspective and I promise it's worth your time and attention.
Here are some of them...
- Audience: The number one tip you need to know is "know your target audience". Understanding your audience allows you to tailor your content to their preferences and needs. Research their demographics, interests, and pain points. Craft content that resonates with them, using relatable examples and addressing their specific concerns.
- Purpose: After you've identified your audience, defining the purpose of your content will help you maintain focus and guide your writing. People consume information in different ways so try to figure out if the delivery of your content will be providing valuable insights, entertaining your audience, or encouraging them to take a specific action. Remember that your purpose shapes your content's structure and tone.
- Clarity and Conciseness: Nobody wants to read a write-up that makes them wonder what the writer means, and in this world of ChatGPT, people are smart enough to know if your writing is robot-made or written by you. Avoid sentences and technical jargon that might confuse readers. Instead, opt for straightforward language that communicates your ideas effectively.
- Engaging Introduction: Aside from writing in a clear and concise manner, your introduction is a major factor in whether someone is going to read the rest of your content or not. You can ask a thought-provoking question, share an interesting story that drives curiosity, or highlight tips that can help people to be better in certain areas of their lives or business.
- Editing and Proofreading: Errors as simple as using 'as for has' can be costly hence the reason why you need to be able to edit and proofread your work. Personally, I use Grammarly to proofread my work and it helps eliminate grammatical mistakes and typos.
- Visuals: Visual elements enhance comprehension and engagement. You can Incorporate relevant images, carousels, videos, or infographics that complement your written content. Visuals are becoming more popular so utilize them to make your content more appealing.
- Call to Action (CTA): A well-crafted CTA directs readers on the desired next steps. Whether you want them to comment, send a DM, go to a website, subscribe, or do something, a clear CTA guides their actions and increases engagement.
- Engagement: One thing that really makes people keep coming back to my content is that I engage with them like I'm their friend. After all, we are human and we crave that human interaction. So, encourage interaction by asking questions, inviting opinions, and responding to comments. Engaged readers are more likely to share your content and become loyal followers.
- Consistency: Maintaining a consistent tone and style fosters recognition and trust. Whether your tone is formal, casual, authoritative, or friendly, stick to it throughout your content to create a coherent and recognizable brand voice. For example, the majority of my content tone is known to be extremely professional and friendly. I also have a consistent posting time which is 8 a.m. during the weekdays
- SEO (Search Engine Optimization): Implementing relevant keywords helps your content rank higher in search engine results. Research keywords related to your topic and naturally incorporate them to improve your content's discoverability.
In conclusion, there is no straight-way formula because we all have different brand goals which is why you need to find out what your audience wants through regular reviews of your analytics and constant feedback. Experiment with different types of content headlines, visuals and posting times to see what works and don't be afraid to make changes to your strategy.
