What is Horror? How does it work ?

This is an extreme form of fear, similar to terror.

Since English is not my native language, I will quote my friend Wikipedia, who speaks English much better than me:
Terror is generally described as a feeling of fear and anticipation that can precede a terrible experience.
Horror, on the other hand, is a feeling of disgust that usually occurs after seeing, hearing, or experiencing something terrible. It is the feeling you feel after doing something terrible or experiencing a deeply unpleasant event. In other words, terror is more related to shock or fear (anxiety), while terror is more related to anxiety or fear.
Horror is also a fictional genre
There is disagreement about the exact definition, but horror generally involves horrific situations intended to frighten the audience. There are many paths you can take to achieve this goal. Here are some.
Showing the Unknown
H.P. Lovecraft, one of the most famous horror theorists, said: “The oldest and strongest feeling of humanity is fear, and the oldest and strongest form of fear is the fear of the unknown.” In German (a term invented by Freud) this is called the uncanny (Strangeness). It's about showing objects in unfamiliar situations.
Use of Tropes

A trope is a frequently recurring motif in works. Many of our fears have their origins in the society and time from which we come. For this reason, we share many concerns. For example, in many societies, many people are afraid of ghosts. Many people are afraid of... pencils? Not exactly. Therefore, it would be more effective to write a book about ghosts than about pencils.

When many horror films use a cliché, there is a risk that the audience will recognize it and care about it. However, it's important not to use too many tropes.

It’s important not to use too many tropes though. The story would then be cliché. By provoking paranoia and discomfort Fear isn’t a comfortable feeling. When we’re scared, we don’t feel safe anymore. When someone doesn’t feel safe, he becomes paranoiac, which is good for a horror story.Movies and books can achieve this, but I think creepypastas are the best way to achieve this. You will read a book, but you will know that it is a book. It won't hurt you. The same applies to films too. But when you read Creepypasta on your computer, realistic thoughts may come to mind: Someone (or something) could be controlling your computer. He can communicate with you about it. It would be nice to have a camera to watch you. This makes us feel less safe. I once read a creepypasta called “How to Play Alone.” These were things you could do to “have fun” with a supernatural being. There were people in the comments who explained that they had tried some of this stuff and shit their pants when they realized it worked. This made the story more real. Found footage videos also look more realistic. These are probably real photos, not a reconstruction. Finally, a quote from Stephen King. Three Kinds of Terror Disgusting: The sight of a severed head falling down the stairs as the lights go out and something green and sticky splatters on your arm. Horror: the supernatural, spiders the size of bears, dead people waking up and walking around, then the lights go out and something with claws grabs your arm. And the last, the worst: the horror of coming home to find that everything you own has been taken away and replaced with a perfect replacement. It's when the lights go out and you hear something behind you, you hear it, you hear it breathing in your ear, but when you turn around there's nothing there....
